5 Ways to Futureproof Your Career and Life
AI is all the rage these days with Dall-e, Midjourney, and now OpenAI’s ChatGPT, and it’s only the beginning.
There is a strong likelihood that your job or your industry is going to be completely disrupted in the next 5-10 years.
With a large population of the labour force having skillsets that may become obsolete, things can get pretty ugly for a lot of folks and their families who depend on them.
So here are 5 ways you can futureproof your career or your business:
👉 1. Embrace Change
Change can be scary but instead of denying, avoiding, or resisting it, embrace it by keeping up to date with the latest tools, technology, and trends. As Walter Gretzky famously said, “Don’t skate to where the puck is, skate to where the puck is going to be.”
👉 2. Network
Nearly everything of value in my life over the past 5 years is from my network (career, investments, wife…). Spend time giving and growing. Develop meaningful relationships.
Don’t think, how can I get something, but rather, how can I add value. If your friend does a thing, support them, pay full price, share with your community.
👉 3. Have multiple revenue streams
This could mean starting a side hustle, having rental income, drop shipping, create a course, invent something… The more legs your stool has, the more sturdy it will be.
👉 4. Downsize your living expenses
It’s not how much you make but how much you keep. You probably don’t need most of the junk that’s in your house (including your closet).
Live like a student for as long as possible and save your money so you can weather any upcoming storm.
👉 5. Invest
Related to downsizing is investing. Think about how the future will be and make bets today. It could be renewable energy companies, vertical farming, metaverse, robotics… Pay off debt and put money aside for investment. I call this a rainy day fund.
Bonus: Transition into a futureproof line of work – one that isn’t likely to become disrupted by technology.
