When hiring an in-house social media person, especially for smaller companies, look for people willing to be on-screen talent.
If they have a personality, are not camera shy, and are willing to be in the videos… that’s a huge advantage to hiring someone without those qualities.
๐ Think video first.
๐ Think series over a collection of one-off posts
This is how brands need to think about their social media strategy.
How to Grow on TikTok
Here’s what popular creators do on TikTok.
๐ 5-7 videos per day
๐ ๐๐จ๐ญ ๐๐ฎ๐ซ๐๐ญ๐๐ – don’t be precious with your videos, just put out any thought that comes to you
๐ ๐๐๐ฐ – just talk and whatever comes out comes out (often they do one take)
๐ ๐๐ง๐ฉ๐จ๐ฅ๐ข๐ฌ๐ก๐๐ – no fancy edits, jump cuts, animation, lights, etc. Sound quality is still important. Invest in a lapel mic (I use a DJI Mic 2 wireless)
๐ ๐๐ซ๐๐๐ญ ๐ฒ๐จ๐ฎ๐ซ ๐ฏ๐ข๐๐๐จ ๐ฅ๐ข๐ค๐ ๐ญ๐๐ฅ๐ค๐ข๐ง๐ ๐ญ๐จ ๐ ๐๐ซ๐ข๐๐ง๐ ๐จ๐ง ๐๐๐๐๐ญ๐ข๐ฆ๐ – use your natural speaking voice, cadence, and tonation. It should sound like an unfiltered stream of thought
Of course, you can do the exact opposite and still be successful on TikTok, but it’s a good reminder that we don’t always need high-production, polished content to compete.
